“There is immense power when a group of people with similar interests gets together to work toward the same goals.” – Idowu Koyenikan
We’re proud of the work we do at Solgas Energy and the impact we make on the economy, community and on the environment. Here is some of the impact we’ve made.
Since the implementation of our solar power plant, employees, partners, communities and shareholders have all benefited from a commitment to be sustainable.
Stakeholders have seen a positive Return On Investment (ROI) from the investment made while also hitting multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s).
Since the inception of Solgas Energy one of our goals was to ensure gender equality amongst our staff (SDG5) and reduce gender bias (SDG10), which is prevalent in African countries.
We were intentional about this, and we’ve managed to positively affect change in some of our employees’ lives.
Protecting the environment is at our core and we’ve been doing our part. In the past, due to constant power cuts the local community were forced to gather firewood for their daily cooking needs. These kinds of practices have destroyed the area’s natural habitat and depleted the tree population.
Since 2021 when we started feeding power to the national grid the number of trees in the area have started to increase in population once again, and slowly returning Hwange to it’s former glory. To help with this we are launching a tree planting initiative at the beginning of 2024.
Children in Africa face many challenges when it comes to getting quality education, so we sought to help reduce some of these challenges. Aside from power generation, we provided safe and clean water by drilling a borehole in the school’s proximity and made it solar powered. This put a smile on the children’s faces and ours.
Being located at one of Zimbabwe’s largest natural reserves (Hwange National Park) has made an impact on the game park activities which had previously been hampered by crippling power cuts. Our work has help reduce poaching incidents by improving security surrounding the game reserve’s parameter.
Africa has a 30% unemployment rate and limited opportunities. Although electricity can reduce those numbers with the opportunities it brings. When we constructed our 5 Megawatt plant in Cross Mabale Hwange, we employed over 350 locals and touched many lives.
Our goal is to provide electricity which will lead to community empowerment through new businesses opening and operating.
